SALEM – Hazel (Mercer) Sneltzer, age 99, died peacefully Wednesday, January 9, 2019 with her family at her side at the Salem East Healthcare Center. She was born January 23, 1919 in Butler Township, Ohio, the daughter of the late Bert and Pearl (Stoffer) Mercer.

 

Hazel and her husband, John were dairy farmers retiring in 1971. She then worked 17 years at the Mahoning Valley Dairy in Westville as a clerk. Hazel loved to cook and especially loved to bake. Her family was the most important part of her life. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in North Georgetown and had attended Goshen High School.

 

Her husband, John J. Sneltzer, whom she married May 23, 1936 preceded her in death March 14, 1973.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Delores (Robert) Capel and Eleanor “Bun” (Glenn) Adams, both of Salem; a son, Richard (Cindy) Sneltzer of Salem; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Sneltzer Thorne; a sister, Helen Arnold of New Middletown; ten grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

 

She was also preceded in death by a son, John D. Sneltzer; brothers, Chester, Glenn, Herbert, and Orvie Mercer; grandsons, David Hrovatic and Michael Mapes and great grandson, Alex Hrovatic.
