Hazel Lee Thompson of Little River passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Hazel Lee Thompson was born on April 11, I950 at home under the direction of a midwife to Herbert and Mary Florence Thompson. She passed away at Grand Strand Medical Center (Myrtle Beach) on Friday, September I, 2023 of natural causes and entered into eternal rest.
Hazel was the biological mother of two children. However, many people considered Hazel their “surrogate and/or special” mother. Hazel was an exceptional mother and grandmother to her five grandchildren. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was a beautiful person with a kind heart and a warm smile. She was always the first to offer help. She regularly cared for sick family and friends and she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy. She had a caring spirit. Hazel was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, her church, and her community.
She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Little River, South Carolina, presided by the Reverend Dr. Johnathan K. Greene, Sr. Hazel was a member of the Sanctuary Choir.
Hazel was preceded in death by her father and mother, Herbert (Mary Florence) Thompson, and four siblings, Herbert Thompson, Jr., Rudolph Thompson, Robert Lee Thompson, and Randy (Gail) Thompson.
Hazel was the daughter of a family of twelve. Despite being in a large family, Hazel always made time for everyone. She always provided support and love for her family. Left to forever cherish her fond memories are her daughter Teresa M. (Keith) Guess of Philadelphia, PA, her son Nicholas Thompson of Charlotte, NC, and five grandchildren Keith T. Guess Jr., Kyle T. Guess, Symyr Lawrie, Kayla Thompson, and Madison Thompson. She is survived by eight of her siblings: six brothers, Hayward Thompson, Edward Charles (Trina) Thompson, Jim (Darlene) Thompson, Roy (Belinda) Thompson, Fred (Mariannne) Thompson, and Hayward Thompson and two sisters, Catherine Bellamy and Margaret (BC) Foster-Williams. She also leaves to cherish a host of relatives: nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
