Boots was born April 24, 1927 to Claiborne and Mamie Byrd Turner. After attending Averett University and earning a business degree, she worked at and ran Francis Kahn’s for over 25 years. She thought that she was ready for retirement, but she found she was not and that she still had many more years of service that she wanted to do. She moved to Raleigh, NC where she was instrumental in helping her son, Jim, run and grow his real estate business. Caring for others was her life’s work.
Boots left for her heavenly home on March 11, 2012 at 6:30 pm at her daughter’s home in Decatur, Alabama surrounded by her son, daughter, and granddaughters. She passed as she did everything in life with great strength and dignity. She was preceded in death by husband James “Unc” Allen, her brothers Joe Turner, Carl Turner, Cliff Turner, as well as her sister Shirley Ross. Also, Boots was preceded in death by her second husband, Clyde McSherry.
She is survived by her son, James Edwin Allen Jr. And wife, Amy Adkins Allen, of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Johnnie A. Renick of Decatur, AL; 3 granddaughters Ricki, Turner, and Taylor Renick, 2 grandsons, Edwin and Adkins Allen, and her sister, Joy T. Smith of Danville, Va.
