Hazel VanZandt Bork passed into eternal life Tuesday, July 15, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, graduate of Central High School, Edmundson Business School and worked for Sloan, Irving Insurance Agency. During that time she met Joe Bork also employed in the Volunteer Building. They were married in1928. As a young bride Hazel moved to their East Brainerd farm. Both Hazel and Joe became civic leaders. She supported Joe”s efforts and dream to bring piped water to the rural community, resulting in the East Brainerd Water Works of which Joe served 25 years as general manager and treasurer. During World War II Hazel was a volunteer Red Cross nurses aid helping care for hospital patients and organized a group of neighborhood women to roll bandages for wounded soldiers. She was active in Hickory Valley Garden Club, Boy and Girl Scouts, Opti Mrs.
