Her smile was as bright as the sun and warmed the hearts of those who crossed her path. Her greatness will forever be measured by her kindness and generosity. She was a strong, independent, and a phenomenal woman whose shoes can never be filled. Her faith surpassed all understanding. Most importantly, she was a child of God whose soul was anchored in the lord.

Hattie Lee Jeffries was born on July 19, 1931 in Talladega, Alabama to Charlie and Emma Lou Perkins. She was the fourth of seven children.

On August 30, 1954, Hattie was united in holy matrimony to Coyes Jeffries. This union produced two sons, Milton and Dwight Jeffries.

Hattie was a very independent woman.  She worked as a housekeeper up until she was 82 years old. The people who she worked for became her family and she was their family. She would always say, that she was going to keep on working, so she would not be a burden to her children. Hattie never drove a car. But that did not stop her from catching the bus to get to wherever she needed to go. And wherever the bus couldn’t take her sons, granddaughters, or daughter-in-laws would take her and pick her up.

Hattie loved to shop. She was a bargain hunter. She would find greats deal at her favorite stores, Macys, Sears and Ross. Hattie was an excellent cook. She made the best beef ribs, turkey and cornbread dressing, macaroni salad, oatmeal cookies with raisins and walnuts and apple pie. Hattie loved to get the family together and go eat out at her favorite restaurants, Olive Garden, Black Angus, and Chilies. Hattie Loved to sit in her rocking chair and watch Trinity Broadcasting Network, Bobby Jones Gospel, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and I love Lucy.  She also loved to sit in her rocking chair and read her bible and prepare the Sunday School Lesson.

On Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 12:25 PM, Hattie entered into the gates of heaven and received her wings. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Shea Family Mission Hills. Many are called but only a few are chosen. And Hattie was chosen. She was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. And when God called her home he said, “Well Done.”

She leaves to cherish her memory, her two sons Milton Jeffries (Rochelle) and Dwight Jeffries (Carol); Three granddaughters, Markesha Jeffries, Jessica Jeffries and Ashley Jeffries; and One great-granddaughter, Marliyah Love Jeffries, all of San Diego, California; Three Brothers, Otis Perkins, of Los Angeles, California, Willie Perkins and William Perkins of Talladega, Alabama; two sisters, Ella Perkins, of Talladega, Alabama and Mattie Perkins of Columbus, Ohio and a host of other relatives and many, many friends, who will mourn her passing, yet celebrate her life.
