Harvey David Pittman passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

Harvey was born in a sharecropper’s house to Alph and Lucy (Blizzard) Pittman in Tuckahoe Township of Jones County, North Carolina, on August 8, 1937. The oldest of 7 children, Harvey attended Pink Hill school. He was drafted by the US Army and ended up at Fort Hood for six years, where he met and married a cheerleader from Holland, TX, Jeanette Wooley on November 5, 1962. Much to his North Carolina family’s dismay, Jeanette had his heart and convinced him to put down roots in Texas!  Their love story lasted more than 57 years.

After his discharge from the Army, Harvey and Jeanette moved to Dallas where Harvey began working at General Motors. Their son David was born in 1964, followed by son Timothy in 1968. In 1973, Harvey became Moody’s city administrator and eventually mayor and would make their home in Moody, a home whose door was always open to friends, family, and neighbors. While in Moody, Harvey was on the Volunteer Fire Department; President of the Lions Club and was instrumental in establishing the Scott & White Clinic,the baseball fields and the Senior Center.

Family was always first in his life and the Pittman family’s passion was camping and fishing of which Harvey did both as much as possible. Harvey eventually owned and operated Pittman Hardware in Moody for 29 years:  a place to buy supplies, have your chainsaws sharpened, but mostly to catch up on the day’s happenings as everyone knows, Harvey was a “people person”. Harvey was a deacon of the First Assembly of God in Moody where he loved his church family.  In his later years, Harvey and Jeanette decided to move to his son and daughter-in-law’s property in Adamsville, Texas where they could watch the deer and report any new calves that were born.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents Alph and Lucy Pittman, a sister-in law, Mary Pittman, and a brother-in- law, Adolph Murphy;

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; two sons: David and wife Betsy, Tim and wife Stephanie all of Moody; Brothers:Wayne and wife,Ida; Cecil and wife, Trish;Charlie and wife, Diane; Odell and wife, Nancy; and Roy, all of Pink Hill, North Carolina; one sister Faye Murphy of Wilmington, North Carolina. 3 grandchildren: Laken Mitchell, Wyatt Pittman, and Ethan Pittman and fiancé Nicole Fielder, along with 3 great grandchildren, Krislyn and Covey Mitchell, and Garrett Pittman.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the VA hospital in Temple for all their care throughout Harvey’s life. Harvey was very proud to say he was a veteran who served his country when called upon.  We would also like to thank all his friends and family for the outpouring of love and prayers during this difficult time.  We will forever be grateful.
