Harvey B. Myers, 83, of Jacksonville, died April 6, 2015, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

He was born Apr. 24, 1931, in Manchester, the son of Charles C. and Rosa Sanders Myers. He married Marlene Dodsworth on March 28, 1954, in Springfield.

He is survived by his wife of Springfield; and their daughter, Dawn Myers of Springfield. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Mabel Cadlini, Mildred Smith, Margaret Newingham, Lela Robinson, and Myrtle and Mary Myers in infancy; and five brothers, Henry, Herman, Harry C., Howard L. and Hubert Myers.

Mr. Myers was a 1950 graduate of Jacksonville High School, where he captained the football and basketball teams during his senior year, making all-conference in both sports. While attending J.H.S. he also was a member of the Army National Guard for three years. At the outbreak of the Korean War, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea, where he received a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, American Theater Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Korean War Service Medal, Korean Combat Ribbon, Korean Commemorative Medal, and Expert Rifle and Sharpshooter Badges. He was discharged after eight years with the rank of Corporal. After that, he worked 11 years for Clancy & Thompson Grocery Store in Jacksonville, and then was the area manager for Sentinel Pest Control, retiring in 1993. He and his wife moved to Arkansas in 1998. Harvey was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps League, and a Military order of the Purple Heart-Life member.
