Harry V. “Popo” Mongillo, 90, of 76 Girard Ave., New Haven passed away Oct. 30, 2013 in YaleNew HavenHospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Ruby G. Solakian Mongillo. Born in New Haven Nov 25, 1922, he was the son of the late Antoni Peter and Nora Sweeney Mongillo. He was a sheet metal worker for Schick – Warner Lambert for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1985.  During World War II, he served as a corporal with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific War Theater. He enjoyed opera and loved being surrounded by family and friends with whom he spread joy and laughter. He touched the lives of all who knew him. He is survived by one son, Harry Mongillo Jr. in Alabama; 5 daughters, Patricia Villano (Frank DeGennaro) and Irene (George) McGaffin Sr., both of West Haven, Mary (John) Zyrlis of East Haven, Linda Mongillo and Nora Stowers (Fernando Bermudez) both of New Haven; as well as many grandchildren & great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Irene Fisher and 4 brothers, John, Robert, Peter & Joseph Mongillo. The family would like to thank the doctors on the 9th floor, MICU at Smilow and on 5-514 East for their care & attention.
