Harry Schmidt, age 84, of Cassopolis, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, in Clark Retirement Home in Grand Rapids.
He was born January 7, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of Harry and Viola (Falkenthal) Schmidt.
He married Lydia Jean Sparks on June 14, 1971, in Penn Township. She preceded him in death.
Harry was a lifelong learner who enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and history. He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1954. Harry served in the United States Navy as Lieutenant Junior Grade.
Harry will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jon Bull of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren, Liam Carsten Bull and Eleanor Jean Bull; four brothers-in-law and their wives, James and Jeanne Sparks of Fenton, Lee and Mariko Sparks of Cassopolis, Glen and Nancy Sparks of Fremont, Carl and Dawn Sparks of Cassopolis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
