Harry S. Kouzoujian passed away peacefully on March 1, 2013. Harry, a first generation Armenian-American, was born on June 6, 1923, in New York City to Vartouhy and Seropay Kouzoujian. Harry graduated from Morris High School in the Bronx, New York in June 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1941. Harry was a paratrooper in the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division.
On his 21st birthday, June 6, 1944, Harry parachuted from an American C 47 troop carrier plane into France as part of the D-Day invasion. He spent the next 11 months as a Prisoner of War and was liberated in May 1945. Harry served his country proudly during WWII and was honorably discharged as a decorated soldier. After the war Harry married his one and only sweetheart Gloria Taneian on January 13, 1946. Harry and Gloria met in the St. Gregory Armenian Church Choir when they were teenagers and they spent the rest of their time together as active and devout members of the Armenian Orthodox Church.
They raised their family in the Bronx, New York and after many years as a jeweler in New York City, he retired to Stamford, Connecticut with Gloria. Harry is survived by his wife Gloria T. Kouzoujian, his sons Edward and Gary, his daughter Lisa, his beloved granddaughter Lenna Rose and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Zabelle Ambariantz and his nephew George Ambariantz.
