Harry O. Posten, 74, of Storrs, died Saturday March 23, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford after an accidental fall at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1928 in Middletown, N.Y. the son of Harry and Cassie (Welles) Posten. Harry was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Roanoke. He received his B.S. Degree in 1956 from Central CT. State University where he was a member of the varsity baseball and football teams. In 1958 he received his Master’s Degree from Kansas State University and received his Ph.D. in 1961 from Virginia Tech. A dedicated teacher in the Statistics Department, Professor Posten taught at UConn from 1963 to his retirement in 1993. He was elected a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 1984. Harry was an avid follower of UConn Husky sports and coached in the town of Mansfield for the Little League and youth soccer teams. He served as a representative from the town of Mansfield on the Charter Cable Advisory Committee. Harry was a lover of classical music. He was devoted to his wife of 44 years, Gail (Keller) Posten of Storrs. He was the proud father of Tom Posten of Windham and June Posten of S. Windsor and grandfather of Troy Hamm, Shana Tedford and Miranda Tedford. He is also survived by his brother Jim of Southington, his mother-in-law Irene Keller of Storrs, an aunt Viola Nelson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Cathy Ann Posten on March 8, 2002 and by a brother Richard.
