Harry Jackson “Jack” Macdonald of Moscow died Friday morning, January 19, 2018 at Good Samaritan Moscow Village. He was 84. Jack was born August 31, 1933 in Long Beach, California to Harry J. and Bertrand A. “Babs” Macdonald. He grew up, attended school and graduated in San Diego. He attended a junior college before beginning his career in the US Army. He enlisted in 1952 and after “boot camp” was awaiting an assignment to Korea. The war ended, and he was sent to Germany. It was there he met and married Gerda M. Pollak in Gemunden, Germany on May 12, 1963. They were stationed at El Paso, TX for a time, returning to Germany for three more years. Jack’s next orders took them to San Diego. Gerda stayed with his family during his deployment to Vietnam in 1968-69. They were transferred to Ft. Lewis, WA, and his second deployment to Vietnam was in 1971-72. He retired from the Army in 1973. Jack next went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration and later as a civilian working for the Federal Government at Ft. Lewis as an electronics technician primarily in the Northwest, retiring in 1991. He worked on the Patriot Missile Testing program in White Sands, NM for a time while he was in El Paso. They moved to Moscow in 2001 to be near their daughter and family. Jack was a communicant of St.
