Harry Glenn Westerlund, age 87, of Skokie IL, Buffalo Grove IL, Katy TX and Borrego Springs CA, passed away on September 3rd, 2021.
Harry was born on November 16th, 1933 in Morton Grove, IL to Aimee Gertrude Hinman Westerlund and Edwin Gustive Westerlund Sr. along with his siblings Betty Westerlund Flippen and Edwin Westerlund, both now deceased. He was widowed in January of 2013 upon the passing of his second wife Shirley Gay Thompson Griggs Westerlund. Harry had a strong faith in God and loved animals. He was a talented machinist and electrician and was awarded a patent for one of his inventions. His last and favorite job was working at a children’s residential treatment center in Katy, TX where he worked in the Maintenance Department and shared advice with the students. In his later years he became involved in researching his ancestry and spent many hours on this hobby. He enjoyed exercising and making friends at the Borrego Springs Senior Center. He was admired for his honesty, his sense of humor and his ability to build and repair anything and everything. He is survived by his three children, Larry Westerlund and wife Lynn, Wendy Orlowski and husband Jeffrey, and David Westerlund and wife Beth, his former spouse Joan Marks Westerlund Travis, his 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Star.
