August 12, 1929 – March 29, 2014

Harriet Ann Ely Hannigan (Peggy), 84, of Boerne, TX died Saturday March 29, 2014. Peggy was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1929 to the late Roy John Wright Ely and Lucile Stambaugh Ely. Peggy spent her childhood and college career in Missoula, Montana where she graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in home economics. In 1953, while working her first job in Seattle, she met and married her husband, Jim Hannigan, an aerospace engineer with Boeing. They began their life together at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma and lived in several states before settling for 29 years in Dickinson, Texas in 1964. By this time the family had grown to include four children. After all the kids were launched and Jim retired from NASA, she and he moved to their lakehouse in Sunrise Beach on Lake LBJ. There they spent 15 years enjoying the hill country with good friends before moving closer to son Rick in Boerne. In addition to raising four kids and managing a busy household, Peggy was an active volunteer all her life, particularly in church work, Meals On Wheels and was Co-Director of the fledgling Dickinson Public Library for several years. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and quilter. Peggy was also a lover of nature and especially enjoyed birds and birdwatching. This love was reflected in the beautiful poetry for which she once won statewide recognition in 2009. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James E. Hannigan, and four children: Linda Hannigan (Paul) of Dallas, Richard Hannigan of San Antonio, Thomas Hannigan (Joan) of Silver Spring, MD and Mary Hannigan (Ruben) of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Sean Hannigan (Emily), Travis Hannigan and Kelsey Hannigan.
