Mr. Harper Orr Wentz
Mr. Wentz, 92, of Charlotte, died Friday, April 16, 2010. Born in Charlotte, to the late John Rich Wentz and Lillie Jane McCall Wentz, he served in the infantry, 7th Army, under General Patton, during WWII. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, earning the American Theater Ribbon, EAMET Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. Mr. Wentz was employed by Homan and Moody, in the early 60’s, to hand letter their race cars driven by the top NASCAR drivers, including Fred Lorenzon, Bobby Johns, Dick Hutchinson and Ned Jarrett. He was a member of Craig Avenue Tabernacle ARP Church and retired from the City of Charlotte in 1983 after 16 years at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wentz is preceded in death by his wife, Louise White Wentz, brother Jay R. Wentz Jr. and sister Ruby Alice Dover.
He is survived by his two sons, Jim and Michael Wentz and daughter-in-law Janet Wentz.
