Harold Vaughn Simpson, Jr. of Bethany peacefully left this world on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the age of 87. His held hands were lovingly passed from his earthly family to his heavenly family and Lord.  Known as “Sonny” by many, Harold was born on April 18, 1934 to the late Harold and Muriel (Bradley) Simpson.

Sonny met the love of his life, Joan Cox, at the age of seven and spent the next 80 years loving her.  The assurance that he’d marry her after their first meeting made him a life-long believer in soulmates, and their love eventually grew to include their six daughters.

After his family and faith, Sonny’s life passion was construction work. A John Deere man through and through, he started working in construction at 19 and grew into a respected expert in his field and a partner in HTS Construction. Sonny proudly built the home in Bethany where his children were raised and still gather, and he spent his life investing in the surrounding community. His tireless work ethic, natural warmth, and deep generosity enriched countless lives and made him friends wherever he went. As a lifelong Conn. resident, Sonny was also an avid UCONN Women’s Basketball fan.

Left to treasure his love and continue his legacy are his daughters: Laurie (Tony) Carvalho of Cheshire, Lisa (Mark) Ronco of Mo., Jamie (Eugene) Harris of New Haven, Tracey Simpson of Bethany and Leslie (Lou) Balzano of North Haven. He also leaves his grandchildren Danielle (Robert) Baker of Mass., Josh (Allison) Ronco of Kan., Brittany (Matthew) Cabral of Mass., Emily Ronco of Colo., Amanda Carvalho of Mass., Rachel Balzano of N.Y. and Brooke Balzano of Md., and three great grandchildren. Sonny is also survived by his brother Robert (Margaret) Simpson and sisters: Marilyn (Albert) Cappola, Nancy (Arthur) Broga, Judy (Ernst) Arnold, Carol Fowler, and Agnes Russell. Sonny was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan and daughter Lynn.
