Harold died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Norfolk Veterans Home.

Harold was born September 9th, 1927 to Ray and Addie (Hogget) Ryan in Meadow Grove, Nebraska. Harold lived and worked on the family farms until he enlisted in the U.S. Army, on October 16, 1946. He then trained at Camp Lee, Virginia and worked in the Communications Department at the Pentagon. He was discharged October 15, 1947. Harold was in the reserves at the time of the Korean War and was called back to active duty on September 27, 1950. He did his refresher training at Fort Hood, Texas. From there he was sent overseas to Johnson Air Base in Japan where he worked as a mechanic. He received his honorable discharge October 13, 195. Harold married Alice Real on June 25th 1949 and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary!

When Harold returned home from the service, he returned to farming. In 1960, he and Alice settled into their home in Norfolk to raise their family. Harold worked 20 years for Gerhold Concrete. He worked 10 years for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber plant before retiring.

Both Harold and Alice loved to travel. They have been to Florida and Alaska and everywhere in between.

Harold was very talented and did lots of wood working and enjoyed showing off his various projects. He was always willing to help anyone who needed help.

Harold is survived by his wife Alice, 7 children and spouses, Mary (Roger) Mauer, Norfolk, Theresa (Ralph) Jessen, Bloomfield, Georgia (Carl) Rassmussen, Norfolk, Tim (Sheri) Ryan, Norfolk, Lori (Mike) Lauters, Pierce, Kathy (Ron) Prince, Winside, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Mike and John, twin daughters in infancy, his sister, Hazel Mathers, and 2 brothers, Marvin and Gene Ryan.
