Harold “Ray” Madison, age 78, of Salem, died peacefully at 12:28 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley in Boardman surrounded by his family. He was born March 12, 1936 in Salineville, Ohio, son of the late Paul and Cora (Rush) Madison. He graduated from Salineville High School in 1954. After graduating, he joined the United States Navy where he found his passion and served from 1954 to 1958 and then he served in the United States Naval Reserve as a First Class Petty Officer until his retirement in 1992. Harold worked as a machinist for the Crane Deming Company from 1971 until his retirement in 2001. Harold served his community by being a member of the Salem Auxiliary Police from 1976 to 1996 and was a member of the police color guard drill team. Ray was a 32-degree Master Mason of The Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown, a Master Mason of Perry Lodge #185, and a member of Salem Elks Lodge #305. Harold “Ray” was a former member of the Aut Mori Grotto where he was a member of the clown team with his best friend Glenn Shingleton. Harold was a member of Salem VFW Post #892 and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Salem, Ohio. Survivors include his wife, Carol (Odey) Madison whom he married February 5, 1960; 3 children, Amy (Steve) Homich of Greenville, Michigan, Brian (Danette) Madison of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Paul (Ruth) Madison of Salem, Ohio; two brothers, twin Howard K. Madison of Salem and Paul Alden Madison of Calcutta; and two sisters, Linda Clark and Shirley Hutson both of Salineville, Ohio. He was a loving father and grandfather who created many lasting memories for his 7 grandchildren, Jacob and Madison Homich, Kyle, Kevin and Kaulin Madison, and Eric and Katherine “Katie” Madison. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and John Madison and a sister, Betty Davies.
