Greenfield – Harold R. Gillespie, beloved husband and father, lived a long and happy life. His youthful appearance and activity level belied his age of 83. A Henry County resident for most of his life, he and his wife had been enjoying retirement in recent years in both Greenfield, Indiana, and Homosassa Springs, Florida.

He passed away on May 6, 2018, surrounded by his loving family, including his wife, Virginia Dee (Davis) Gillespie, his two children, Christie L. Gillespie (Trent) and Joseph C. Gillespie (Naomi) and his brother Charles G. Gillespie (Alison).

Other survivors also include nephews Jeff Gillespie, Scott Crabtree, Jeff Hardin, Ronnie Hardin and three step-grandchildren.

Family was Harold’s top priority, and he and Dee had a marriage that was truly a wonderful 53-year life partnership. Be assured that no one doubted that Harold’s definition of family included the family pets, particularly his loyal dog, Dinkum, and rescued cat, Bub.

Harold was the ever-present, involved father to his daughter, Christie, and son, Joe. His sense of fairness and determination was passed to his daughter, and his steady and thoughtful resolve lives on in his son.

He was born on April 6, 1935 to the late Arthur Carlton Gillespie and Virginia Margaret (Gray) Gillespie. Harold graduated from Lewisville High School in 1953 and served in the Marines from 1953-1957, where he was honorably discharged.
