Harold Portee, 84, the first born son of the late Chandler Portee and Emma Valentine Portee and brother to the late Bettye Portee Dockery Mebane, who preceded him in death, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014.
Harold was born on July, 19, 1929 in High Point, NC. He attended and graduated from William Penn High School in 1947. He was a Veteran of US Army having served in Korea during the Korea War as a medic. Upon his return from serving his country, Harold learned the trade of a cobbler and he worked in that profession for many, many years. He worked in several shoe repair shops in the triad area during his life. Harold was very well known in and around the High Point area. Harold was quick witted and kept a positive attitude throughout his life. He was a happy go lucky guy who was always willing to help and lend a hand. He was devoted to his family especially to his sister, Bettye, who was his best friend. Usually if you saw one you would see the other. In his later years Harold found peace and joy when he joined the Spirit of Life Ministries Church in High Point, NC. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Harold’s family and his many friends will miss his sparkling personality, his kindness and his smile. His absence will be greatly felt but he is now onto a greater mission than we can comprehend. Harold is survived by his oldest nephew, Gregg Sinclair Dockery and wife, Denise, of Philadelphia, PA. His youngest nephew, Dean Portee Dockery and wife, Lauraine, and grandnephew, Tyler-Dean Portee Dockery, II, and grandniece, Hannah Lauren Portee Dockery of Lynchburg, VA; cousins, Sheryl Portee of Washington, D.C., Lynne Jones of Philadelphia, PA, Karen Portee and Robin Gibbons of Newark, NJ, extended family and lifelong friends in High Point, NC, Newark, NJ, and Columbia, SC.
