Harold Peter “Pete” Aydt I, 85 of Centralia passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.Pete was born July 15, 1928 in Centralia son of Leonard & Cecelia Aydt. He married Phyllis Davis on February 3, 1951 at St. Mary’s Rectory in Centralia and she survives in Centralia.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is also survived by seven children: Linda Moergen and husband Jim of Centralia, Harold “Pete” Aydt II and wife Rhonda of Centralia, Mary Jones and husband Rick of Centralia, Mark Aydt and wife Rene of Centralia, Jan Budde and husband Dan of Centralia, Cindy Wobbe and husband Scott of Collinsville and Lori Alli and fiancé Ron Kindred of Terre Haute; 14 grandchildren: John Moergen and special Katie, Jamie Moergen and special friend Tom Horton, Tracy Lance and husband Boyd, Jennifer Schempp and husband Jason, Teresa Weilmuenster and husband Chad, Kristie Carter and special friend Josh Watts, Tim Aydt and wife Kalani, Elisabeth Crompton and husband Brian, Andy Headley and special friend Kendra, Danny Headley, Josh Wobbe, Shannon Wobbe, Nicole Alli and spcial friend Ben Konnig, and Brock Alli and fiancé Taylor Jones; step-grandchildren: Tricia Hubert and husband Brian of Albers, Russell Budde and wife Jennifer of Bartelso and Brad Budde of Bartelso; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; a brother, August Aydt of Centralia; In-laws: Jim Davis and wife Marlene, Helen Childers and husband Paul, Gary Davis and wife Cindy, Sharon Thomas, Liz Davis and Dorothy Aydt; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Robert Aydt, William Aydt and Edward Aydt, two sisters: Mary Williams and husband Jerry and Lorene Hollenkamp and husband Tony, Mother-in-law, Florence Schwartz, Father-in-law, Edward Davis, three brother-in-laws: Toby Davis, Edward Davis and Jim Thomas and a sister-in-law, Frances Aydt.
Pete retired from the Post Office after 25 plus years. He enjoyed gardening, bird and rabbit hunting, farming, his family car drives on Sundays and he enjoyed spending time at the Aydt’s Aching Acres Strawberry Patch. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. Most of all Pete loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
