Harold Norman Meaker, 84, passed away on June 7, 2016. He leaves his wife, Gay (Miller) Meaker, with whom he shared a devoted marriage for 48 years.  Predeceased by his parents and three older siblings, Janette, Warren and George, he leaves his sister, Grace Glezen, and her husband, Bruce Glezen; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and many close friends.  Harold was loved by both his and his wife’s family and highly regarded by many more throughout the community.

Raised in Whitney Point, NY, the son of Warren and Irene (Kenyon) Meaker, he was the youngest of five children raised in their home in the country.  As a young man in his hometown, he was a highly respected in civics, athletics, and scholarship – he was Valedictorian of his class for several years.  He loved living on the farm his parents had obtained during the depression and the home his parents renovated into a haven for their family and all the extended family that followed after.  Never forgetting his early beginnings or losing track of family, in his later life Harold assumed the role of Patriarch of the Meaker family.

Harold met his wife, Gay, at Tulane University where they were both pursuing a mutual interest in business law.  They were married July 1, 1967 in New Orleans and have lived in the same home ever since.

Harold and Gay were avid travelers and spent many summers traveling through Europe and building friendships there.

Working hard to ensure that he maintained close contact with his northern family, he often returned home and also hosted numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews showing them the sights around New Orleans.   He originated biannual family reunions back in upstate New York that continue to this day with ever-growing generations of Meaker relations.
