Harold Mathes, the son of John and Jennie (Vos) Mathes, was born March 6, 1925 on the family farm north of Pella. He was one of ten children. Harold passed away at the farm at the age of eighty-four.
Harold, with the help of his wife, farmed the family’s Century Farm for his whole life. Harold loved his farm, and especially enjoyed his horses. He also liked to look for Indian arrowheads and attend auctions.
Harold and Pauline adopted two children: Malissa at age 1 ½ and Jeffrey at age 8.
Harold is survived by his two children Malissa (Mathes) Wheeler and Jerry McKain of Jolley, Iowa and Jeffrey Mathes; four grandsons: Steven Pazzi of Ames, Austin Crase of Pella, Jason (Cecilia) Everely of Germany, and John Norman Mathes; great-grandson, Ashtyn Pazzi; his siblings: Sarah Mathes, Mabel De Vries, Esther Slykhuis, Ervin Mathes, Evelyn Beyer, and Edith (Irvin) Huyser; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline on March 14, 2008, and three siblings: Valentine Mathes, Bill Mathes, and Agnes Mathes.
