Harold Lee Craig, 86, of Canon City, was called home by the Lord on August 21, 2013. He was born December 17, 1926 in Greer County, OK to LeRoy and Zada (McGill) Craig. Harold moved to Canon City in 1931, and became a lifelong resident. He attended the old Washington elementary, Wilson Junior High, and the old Canon City High School, where he met his future wife, Lillie May Land. After the outbreak of WWII, Harold had the calling to serve his country; but being too young, he had to wait until he was 17. During his senior year in 1943, he left school to join the Army Air Corps. He trained at Keesler Army Airfield in Biloxi, Mississippi and was later stationed at Elmendorf Field in Anchorage, Alaska as an aircraft mechanic where he attained the rank of Corporal. After the war, Harold was honorably discharged and returned to Canon City where he married his sweetheart, Lillie May in 1946. He and his father opened Roy’s Tru-Tred Tire Shop in 1946, which he continued to run with his own son until he retired in 1996. Over the years, Harold along with his father built a 21 foot cabin cruiser and cabins at Twin Lakes and Lake Deweese. They designed and completed various other projects, including a homemade snow cat and a jet ski.
