It is with great sorrow that the family of Harold (Harry) Stanley Larson announces his sudden and unexpected passing at age 53, on July 27, 2013.

He was born on September 8, 1959 in Corydon, Iowa to Gertrude (Holst) and Stanley Larson of rural Wayne County.

He was raised on the family farm in Wayne County and graduated from Russell High School in 1977.

Harry worked at various jobs during his short life, but found his calling in building maintenance, last working at Marsden Building Maintenance in Des Moines.

Harry was not the most athletic person, but he was a BIG sports fan!!

NASCAR, NBA, football/basketball – college or pro – he would watch it!

He was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan, but was equally supportive of the Iowa State Cyclones. He relentlessly cheered on the Chicago Cubs whether they won or lost. He followed the Minnesota Twins and was a life long Kansas City Chiefs fan.

He loved to hunt mushrooms, grow tomatoes and just garden in general.

His other love was cooking but he didn’t always know how to.

Even though he had Mom’s old cookbook, he made numerous calls to his sisters and brother-in-law for recipes or instructions of how to make things like ham and bean soup, chili, and home-made noodles.

Harry also liked music – he liked to sing and play his “air” guitar or drum on the table or bar or wherever he happened to be.

It could be quite annoying at times!

Many of you know from past times with Harry that this was his all-time favorite song.

Harold is survived by his son, Josiah (Shana) and two grandchildren, Sebastian and Gwyndalin of Carlisle; three sisters, Sarah (Clifford) Kitzman, of Beaman; Linda (Dennis) Senecaut, of Altoona; and Lorraine (Richard) Forkner, of Des Moines; two brothers, Russell (Pok) of Korea and Verne of Monument, Co.

Also a niece, Shannon (Shaine) Yates; two nephews, Brett (Leslee) Kitzman and Scott (Tara) Kitzman, one great niece Giselle and five great nephews:

Lucas, Cassady, Symon, Sammy and Everett and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Harry was a casual, laid back type of guy, so no suits, just wear your jeans, favorite T-shirt (Hawkeye, Cyclone, Cubs, Twins, Chiefs – any team, as he watched and followed them all!) and a hat.

A special word of thanks to the Monroe County Sheriff’s office and the Albia Fire & Rescue Department for their help in finding Harry and helping us know more about

his untimely death.

The family will be present from 12:30–2:00.

Rest in peace, Harry, you will be greatly missed.
