Harold passed away August 8, 2016, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.

Harold was born January 8, 1932 to Herald Ira Close and Lula Marie Pirnie Close. He attended Custer Elementary School and graduated from Broken Bow High School in Broken Bow, NE. He was quite the athlete, he ran track and was on the basketball and football  teams,. He attended University of Nebraska, where he played on the Cornhuskers’ Football Team.

Harold married Hazel Mattox, in September of 1950. Three children were born in this union; Janice, Michael, and Patricia. The Family lived in; Broken Bow, NE, Sioux City, IA, and finally Boise, ID.

Harold Served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict, earning the rank of Sergeant. He was a drill instructor and worked hard to prepare our troops for war. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, and was honorably discharged when the conflict came to a close.

Harold learned hard work and ethics and welding  from his father during the depression in his farm implement/welding business of rural Nebraska.

Harold was very proud of his Scottish heritage.

During his last days, Harold said how lucky he was to have so many people that loved him. Harold loved his family and never hesitated to give of himself.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends.

Harold is survived by two daughters, Jan and Bert Miller of Eagle, ID, and Patricia and Anthony Kub of Eagle, ID; a son, Michael Close of Boise; five Grandchildren, Rachel Vachon, Matthew Miller, Sam Miller Michala Shuman and Travis Shuman, and 11 Great-grandchildren; Brooklyn, Madison, Ethan, Emma, Colin, Kylie, Maggie, Annabelle, Anya, and one on the way, all of whom he adored.
