Harold (Hal) David Erickson passed away at age 85 on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 surrounded by his family in Littleton, Colorado. Born on February 26, 1936 in Deadwood, SD, Hal was the youngest son of the late Harold Edward Erickson and Ruth Duff Erickson.
Hal attended high school at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, SD, where he played basketball and football. Later in life, Hal was inducted into his high school’s Sports Hall of Fame. He excelled at basketball and with his high scholastic grades, he received a four-year scholarship to the University of Montana in Missoula. Upon his graduation from college, he accepted a position in the Trust Department of the National Bank of South Dakota in Sioux Falls.
On June 17, 1957, Hal married Janice Anne Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD. Their first child, daughter Jill Lynne was born in 1958. A son David Hal was born in 1961. Another daughter, Robin Lee was born in 1967.
Hal went on to manage the Butte, Montana office of New York Life Insurance before moving to Colorado in 1971. Later in his career, Hal started his own employee benefits company, “Erickson Employee Benefits”, which he managed until his retirement. The company is now managed by his daughter Robin Tracy.
In his golden years, Hal and Janice spent the winters in Scottsdale, AZ and summers in Littleton, CO. They both enjoyed traveling and Hal was an avid golfer with 5 hole-in-ones! After the death of Janice, Hal moved to Surprise, Arizona where he lived year-round enjoying the AZ lifestyle and golfed 3 times per week.
Hal is preceded in death by Janice Erickson, wife of 60 years. He is survived by his older brother, John Duff Erickson of Rapid City SD, and 3 children, Jill (Clay) Stadler David (Katy) Erickson and Robin (Rob) Tracy in Colorado. He has 6 grandchildren, Derek, Julia, Max, Mitchell, Kelsey and Courtney and the “Magnificent 7“ great-grandchildren.
