Harold John Gorman, Jr. died peacefully Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, surrounded by those whom he loved and who loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold John Gorman, Sr. and Margery Aymami Gorman. He is survived by his wife of more than 49 years, Doris Ann von Dammerau Gorman, his two daughters, Catherine Ann Gorman Kuuskraa and Madeline Jeanne Gorman Holbrook, and his sons-in-law Jason Alexander Kuuskraa and William Franklin Holbrook.
Harold graduated from St. Stephen’s Catholic School and De La Salle High School.
Newly-elected Mayor Earnest N. Morial asked Harold to serve in his new administration. During his 25 years with the City of New Orleans, Harold was appointed Director of Safety and Permits, Director of Streets, and retired as the Executive Director of the Sewerage and Water Board. Following his retirement from city government, Harold established an international utility consulting firm, where he advised public works agencies and water and wastewater utilities on management issues. During that time, he traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and Europe. He then joined Morgan Keegan and Company in New Orleans as a consulting banker.
