Harold F. Davis, 90, of Virginia, IL died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born December 26, 1919 at the family farm in Cass County, IL; the son of Willis F. and Barbara (Kruse) Davis. He married Lela Mae Marr on December 22, 1940 in New London, MO and she preceded him in death on July 11, 2006,
Surviving are his three daughters, Marilyn Kay Small (husband, Ronnie) of Houston, TX, Judith Ann Wallace (husband, Bob) of Sarasota, FL, and Linda Yockey (husband, Ron) of Nauvoo; two sons, Harold Allen Davis (wife, Patty) of Virginia and Marvin Danny Davis (wife, Teresa) of Virginia; nine grandchildren, Richard Wallace, Ron Wallace, Roger Wallace, Brigit Bell, Scott Davis, John Davis, Ross Davis, Caye Perez, and Megan Davis; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Fern Davidsmeier, and a brother, Wilbur Davis.
Harold graduated from Beardstown High School in 1937. During World War II, he served in the 80th Infantry Division, saw combat in the European Theater of Operation, and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he and his wife engaged in grain and livestock farming on their farm in the Bluff Springs Township. In addition to farming, he also worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Cass, Morgan, Mason, Schuyler, Christian, and Pike counties. Following his retirement, he and his wife returned to Cass County and, during 1995, moved to their home in Virginia, IL. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, walking, and nature.
