Harold D. Wise, 89, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, June 8, at Addison Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in Chesterton.

He was born June 17, 1924, in Elkhart to Clyde M. and Hazel (Kegley) Wise.

On Sept. 6, 1944, he married the late Betty L. Wise in Terre Haute. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2010.

Survivors include two sons, Larry D. (Rosalee) Wise of Elkhart, and Travis L. (Paula) Wise of Portage; daughter Teri L. (Roy Sr.) King of Elkhart; three brothers, Claude (Jan) Wise of Florida, Shaylor King of Elkhart, and Ernest (Mary) Wise of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Betty Shaver and Nancy Cummins, both of Edwardsburg, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Hannah Wise of Bloomington and Nathaniel Wise of Indianapolis.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Wise, Lloyd Wise, and Ernest Feller.

Harold was a graduate of Bristol High School and later attended Rose Hulman Institute in Terre Haute. Harold served in the U.S. Army with the 316th Signal Service Company during World War II in the Pacific theater.

He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years and later worked for The Elkhart Truth Publishing Company for 21 years prior to his retirement in 1991.

After his retirement, he worked part-time at Oxbow County Park and then at Dec-O-Art, where he helped improve some methods of operations doing inspection and assembly.

Harold enjoyed spending time reading and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
