Harold D. Carriger, 80, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Passavant Hospital.

He was born Jan. 10, 1936, in rural Scott County, the son of Darwin and Madaline Blair Carriger. He married Patricia Joann Knapp on Oct. 8, 1955, in Alsey, and she survives.

He is also survived by one daughter and three sons, Rita (Jerry) Gulley of Traverse City, MI, William (Amy) Carriger of Texas, and Kevin Carriger and Jay Carriger, both of Jacksonville; ten grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; six brothers and two sisters, Harley (Betty) Carriger of West Virginia, Helen Coats of Winchester, Hershel (Norma) Carriger of Chapin, Henry (Linda) Carriger of Nebraska, Jack (Vicki) Carriger of Augusta, Sheryl Brooks of St. Louis, MO, Howard (Karen) Carriger of Nebraska and Herbert (Sheri) Carriger of Alsey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Hal Carriger (surviving wife Kathy of Florida); and one sister, Hettie Carriger.

Mr. Carriger was the owner/operator of Harold’s Shell in South Jacksonville for 40 years. He enjoyed reading, fishing, playing softball and golfing with friends. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed watching his TV shows and sports, especially baseball, and just kicking back.
