Harlan T. Peterson, age 92 of Midland, passed away September 27th, 2016 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center – Midland from cancer. The son of the late Alfred and Euphemia (Haggerman) Peterson was born on November 7th, 1923 in Pittsburg, Kansas. He served his country as a Staff Sargent with the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific. In February 1945 he married Phyllis Maxine Lyle. They were married for 24 years until her death. In January of 1969, Harlan married the former Lois Hefka Caterer at the First United Methodist Church. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa living there for 42 years, returning to Midland 3 years ago. She survives him after 48 years of marriage. He was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines, IA.
Besides his wife, Harlan is survived by his 3 daughters, Linda Suzan (Jerry) Johannigmeier, Peggy Lou (Jerry) Hitchcock, and Dana Kay Vasquez; Step-children, Gerry (Helen) Caterer, and Cathy (Lee) Brink; grandchildren, Israel (Daniell) Vasquez, Andrea Vasquez, Marcus Vasquez, and Jose Vasquez; 16 step –grandchildren; 2great-grandchildren, August and Ame; 13 step great grandchildren; sister, Helen McKinon.
