Harlan E. Niles, 80, 221 High St. Westerly RI, passed away peacefully Friday October 6, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved wife of Margaret “Peg” (Wheeler) Niles.

 

Born in Westerly RI, on May 29, 1926, he was the son, of the late Potter H. and Eva May (Shepard) Niles.

 

Mr. Niles worked for the University of Rhode Island for many years before his retirement.  He also worked as a supervisor at Kay Dee Handprints in Hope Valley RI, for many years.

 

A World War II Army veteran he was a life time member and past Chaplin for the American Legion Gordon Greene Post in Hope Valley. 

 

Mr. Niles was a fifty year member of the First Baptist Church in Hope Valley.

 

Harlan was an avid fisherman and a member of the Bass Masters.  He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, bowling and listening to blue grass music.

 

Besides his loving and devoted wife of 42 years he leaves his son Donald Edward Niles and daughter-in-law Sandy Niles of Westerly, his two daughters, Jeanne A. Abate of Westerly and Jayne L.  Scorpio and son-in-law Paul Scorpio of Hope Valley.  He also leaves his step-son William C. Apicerno of Shelton CT, two brothers, Ronald F. Niles of Ledyard CT, and Richard C. Niles of Westerly.  He was the loving grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his twin sister, Vivian Metts and his step-son Paul Apicerno and grandson Scott Beaudet.
