Harald Tonnessen, 88, of Cromwell, beloved husband of Gladys Hagen Tonnessen for 59 years, passed away on Thursday, December 31st at his home. Born in Farsund Norway, he was the son of the late Theodor H. and Hannah (Salvesen) Tonnessen. Harald immigrated to the USA from Norway at the age of eight. He served in the Marine Corp during WWII as a fighter pilot in the Pacific. After the war Harald used his Pratt Institute training first working as an exhibit designer at the Museum of Modern Art. He later began his own art and design firm in New York City retiring in 1986.
