Hans Robert Bittikofer, 62, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in the comfort of his home with his loving wife, Susan, by his side.

Hans was born March 3, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Robert and Josephine Bittikofer.

Hans spent the majority of his childhood in Toledo, Ohio, then graduated high school in Charleston, West Virginia prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy.  Soon after being discharged, he met the love of his life, Susan. They lived in Ohio and South Carolina before settling in Phoenix, Arizona where they found their forever home.

Hans was one of a kind. He had the most unique and infectious laugh and always had a joke to tell. Though he always wanted people to think he was tough, deep down inside Hans truly was tenderhearted and had a sweet and caring soul. He had a knack of always knowing exactly how to make people laugh, which made being a bartender the perfect calling for him. Hans loved all sports, but everyone knew him to be an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was also very passionate about music, but especially loved the Grateful Dead, having gone to many of their concerts throughout the years. Hans, along with Susan, also enjoyed many years of fostering dogs for various shelters in Phoenix.

Hans will be deeply missed by his wife, Susan, of Phoenix, Arizona; his sister, Gretchen (Terry) Poffenbaugh of Toledo, Ohio; his sister, Heidi (Al) Macino of Toledo, Ohio; his sister, Ericka (Scott) Spychalski of Temperance, Michigan; and his sister-in-law, Diane (Brian) Tharp, of Cortland, Ohio. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and countless friends, many of whom he considered like family.
