Hannah Serina Howard, 78, from Dillingham, Alaska died peacefully the morning of June 19, 2019. Serina went to be with our Lord and Savior while in the arms of her daughter, Ruth.
Serina was born on December 12, 1940 in Ekuk, Alaska to Daniel Ingvar Johansson and Hannah Hiratsuka-Sorensen. She was a loving mother of seven children. Serina worked as a dietician for 14 years in Fairbanks, Alaska at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital until she moved back to Dillingham, where she worked several jobs: including waitress at Peter Pan Seafoods and cook for Kanakanak Hospital, Dillingham Senior Center and Gramma’s House. Serina was an avid reader, enjoyed watching movies, playing bingo, pinochle, and board games. She also loved garage sales and finding great deals! But her all time favorite thing to do was visiting with her friends and family, especially her kids and grandkids! She loved them dearly and would save and buy things throughout the year to be able to send a gift to each of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids for Christmas. Her kids said their mom was a beautiful, sweet, kind, loving, compassionate, strong, resilient and quiet mother who did not raise a hand or her voice to them, except for maybe with Wade, who most likely deserved it!
One thing that tends to surprise people about Serina is that she had two sets of twins, and both sets were born on December 16 but 4 years apart. Serina is survived and will be sorely missed by her sister, Helene Sagmoen- Dillingham; stepsister, Selma Cearney- Ogden, Utah; her children; Ingrid (Nick) Timurphy- Dillingham, Bart (Katy) Howard- Wasilla, Theresa (Frank Sr.) Derrick- Wasilla, Henry (Bertha) Howard- Kwethluk, Wade (Colette) Howard- Fairbanks, and Ruth Lee Berry- Kenai. Her grandchildren; Mattias, Francisco, Rico, Brian, Jessica, Kristine, Colleen, Corey, Brett, Tiara, Jesse, MaryBeth, Franke, Michael, Brandi, Sophia, Ezekiel, Tess, Hannah, Atan, Harley, Skyler, Riley, Helene (Ellie), Curtis, Felicia, Desirae, Melody, Derek, Dylan, Devan (Bebe) and numerous great-grandchildren. Serina was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Hannah; stepfather, Emil Sorensen; brother, Daniel Johansen; stepbrothers, Emil Jr. and Ralph Sorensen Sr.; her son, Harold Howard, and her precious granddaughter, Karis Derrick. Rest in peace, Serina. We love you and miss you already. You are always in our hearts until we meet again.
