Halo Marie (Hayner) Myers, 98, passed away earning her own “halo” March 21, 2005 at her family home after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. Halo was born to Jesse and Ellen (Grinnell) Hayner on December 3, 1906 in Three Rivers, Mich. She spent her childhood in Union City, Mich. and earned her teaching degree from County Normal where she was the valedictorian of her class.

Halo taught briefly in a one room schoolhouse in Union City before meeting the love of her life, Franklin Butterfield Myers of Chicago, who she married on October 27, 1928. For the next 28 years they raised four children, Millie, Bob, Carol, and Dot and lived in Chicago where Frank was a City of Chicago Firefighter. Upon Frank’s retirement in 1954, Halo and Frank moved to Three Oaks and spent many happy years there. Halo returned to teaching in the River Valley School System, substituting when needed at all the local schools. Many will remember her love of knitting and crocheting, as she taught this for many years through Adult Education and at the River Valley Senior Center. Halo spent many hours making afghans, baby sweaters and blankets for her family and friends.

She also loved gardening, her flowers, and was a founding member of the River Valley Garden Club.Survivors include her children, Robert (Mary) Myers of Streamwood, Ill; Mildred Dickover of Steger, Ill; Carol (Larry) Renbarger and Dot (Greg) Siuda both of Three Oaks; 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Grandchildren that live locally include Jim (Kris) Renbarger of Three Oaks; Tamara Siuda of Joliet, Ill; Gregory Tod Siuda of LaGrange, Ind and Taryn (James) Schilling of Michigan City and great-grandchildren, Gregory Ty Siuda, Ashley Verner and Caitlyn Ragan of New Buffalo; Emily Schilling of Michigan City, and Devon and Destiny Renbarger of Three Oaks. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1983 after 55 wonderful years of marriage, by her sister Pansy in 1958, and her son Richard Hayner Myers in 1933.
