H. Lorraine Yates, age 93, of Indianapolis, peacefully fell asleep in Christ on December 27, 2017 while in Hospice care at The Wellington of Southport. She was born in Westby, WI, on September 25, 1924 to Oscar and Alma Buraäs. She was Baptized and Confirmed in the Christian Faith at the Coon Prairie Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, Westby. She attended a one room rural school up to the Eighth Grade and graduated from Westby High School in 1942. She attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for two years. Following World War II, she met Raymond A. Yates at a USO dance at Truax Field in Madison, WI.
Lorraine was known and loved for her servant’s heart, quick wit and ability to instigate lively conversations and humor. She was well known for her cooking and baking, especially pies, cookies and Norwegian dishes and desserts. Her resiliency and strength live on in her family and grandchildren.
