H. Joe Powers, 70, of Salem passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. He was born April 29, 1940 in Parkersburg the son of the late Willard K. Powers and Geneva I. Ellyson Powers. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Nancy Jewell Shreve Powers. In addition to his wife he is survived by three children; Melinda Underwood and husband Don of Salem, Bradley Powers and wife Brenda of Salem and Jason Powers and wife Jennifer of Salem; six grandchildren; Ashley Powers, Mason Cross, Joseph Powers, Jayden Powers, Emily Powers and Ella Powers; one foster sister; Frances Whitehair and husband Kenny of Clarksburg; sister-in-law Natalie Sinclair and husband Ted; four brothers-in-law; Don Shreve and wife Eleanor, Ike Shreve and wife Irene, Marvin Shreve and wife Jane, Raymond Shreve and wife Dianne. Mr. Powers was employed as a crane operator for Union Carbide and was owner and operator of Wilderness Water Park and Campground. He was a U. S. Army Veteran having served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He loved to hunt, was an avid fan of the Steelers and Mountaineers and loved his children and grandchildren. He was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
