Gwendolyn Elaine Smith-Porter, of Suffolk, VA passed away July 22, 2024. She was the daughter of Robert and Annie Mae (Torrence) Smith. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Miller.Elaine was a captivating, intelligent and beautiful young lady. She started her life’s journey on March 3, 1962. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Wheeling Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Lipscom, Alabama. Throughout her life, she showed compassion and love to all she interacted. With those people in her heart, always giving love, kindness, and loyalty. Her family meant everything to her. She disciplined as needed to give her children the knowledge to succeed in this arduous world. Also, reinforcing with loving guidance at every juncture. She was an extraordinary mother that leaves an enormous void that can never be filled. Elaine had a wonderful life experiencing travel, connecting with friends and family, even taking on the task of entertaining her stoic husband when he forgot how to enjoy the moment.Elaine attended Roosevelt Elementary School, A.G. Gaston Middle School, and Shades Valley High School, where she was crowned Miss Romance of Languages. She graduated from Paul D. Camp Community College with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Computer Science, Magna Cum Laude. She became IT certified in Comp TIA A+, Comp TIA Network, and Comp TIA Security+. She began her career working for the American Red Cross and Gateway Computer (Non Dell) at Northrop Grumman. She advanced to J7/Suffolk Joint Task Force as the IT Manager. She also worked for General Electric and Smithfield Packaging Co.
