Gwendolyn E. Davis, 98, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Clarksburg, WV. She was born in McWhorter (Harrison County), WV on June 21, 1913, the eldest of the four children of Clarence Loudin and Ethel Nutter Loudin. Gwendolyn married McComis G. Davis of Salem, WV on September 20, l932 at his family home in Salem. She is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, McComis Davis, who passed in 1990; by her son, Richard E. Davis, and by her daughter, Barbara Jo Davis Furner; two sisters, Gertrude Auvil and Jo Ann Jenkins, and a brother, John Loudin. Gwendolyn is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joan Spillers Davis of Virginia, her six grandchildren; Leslie Davis Farris of Kentucky, Hilary Davis White, Andrea Davis Kampe both of Virginia, Gregory Furner, Theresa Furner Diamond, both of Florida and Jana Lee Furner Garbett of Rhode Island; nineteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She was an active and faithful leader of Salem Baptist Church having served as the first woman deacon among other positions in the church. She was a member of Salem Garden Club, the former Salem Women’s Club, Order of Eastern Star, Salem University Auxiliary, and many other notable organizations.
