Gwendalyn Rose Frangione, 83 of New Bern, N.C. died April 16, 2009, at the Britthaven of New Bern Nursing Home. She was born Gwendalyn Rose Lannan in Lowell, Mass., Aug. 30, 1925, to the late Charles Lannan and Gertrude Jamieson. She moved from Lowell to Hartford in 1946, where she met and married the late Anthony F. Frangione, who she was married to for 52 years. She attended hairdresser/cosmetology school and upon her graduation opened two beauty salons, one in Plantsville and the other in New Britain. Both salons were named “The Fountain of Youth.” She continued to style hair long after selling both salons, and found great joy in working in local nursing homes, fixing the hair of the residents who lived there.
