Guy William “Bill” Plunkett Jr., 80, of Virginia, IL died Friday, January 1, 2010 at his residence.

He was born February 28, 1929 in Ashland, IL; the son of Guy William Sr. and Emma Reiser Plunkett. He married Bette L. Baehr on April 18, 1953 at St. Luke’s Church in Virginia and she survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Micki Wilson (friend, Randy Davison) of Virginia; two sons, Mike Plunkett (wife, Cheryl) of Springfield and Mark Plunkett (wife, Valerie) of Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Bradley Wilson of Sullivan, Brian Wilson of Orlando, FL, Daniel Plunkett, David Plunkett, Ashley Plunkett, all of Springfield, Samantha Plunkett of Athens, and Shelby Plunkett of San Diego, CA; a great granddaughter, Marlie Nicole; a brother, Bob Plunkett (wife, Bev) of Virginia; two sisters, Wilma Dalton Bast (deceased husband, Harold “Honk”) of Cottage Green, MN and Margaret Blakeman (deceased husband, Howard) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, and a nephew.

Mr. Plunkett was a graduate of Virginia High and served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951-1953. He worked with Quincy Hughes Heating and Air Conditioning for a few years. He later managed the FS Virginia LP Plant for 28 years.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Virginia and attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Havana during the summers. He served as an alderman for the City of Virginia during the 1970’s. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bill enjoyed boating, fishing, spending time at his cabin on Matanza Beach, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, riding the “Mule”, and spoiling his grand kids.
