Guy Herbert Winkleman, 87, of Palatka, passed from this life on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, he served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. As a Mustang, he retired with the rank of Captain following 22 years of dedicated service. Guy then became the Executive Director of Dietary and Housekeeping at Vereen Memorial Hospital in Moultrie, Georgia.

During this time, he also operated the family farm in Moultrie, Georgia where he raised feeder pigs and grew corn, eggplant, and watermelons until selling the farm and moving to Putnam County in 1973. He was employed with the St. Johns River Water Management District where he began the drilling program as well as the logging program. In 1974, from his home in East Palatka, Guy founded Putnam Well Drilling which he eventually located in Welaka and continues to thrive today under the management of his son, Tom, and his family.

Guy was a long-time member and deacon at the First Baptist Church in Welaka. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and an honorary member of Lake Lodge # 72 F&AM in Crescent City. Guy loved traveling in his motorhome and journeyed to Alaska numerous times and various locations all over the continental U.S. He was likewise involved with SMART (Special Military Active Recreational Travelers). Guy also had a passion for quail hunting and fishing and in years past, had enjoyed golfing. In addition to his love for his canine American Bulldogs, he loved his Georgia Bulldogs!

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Dot Winkleman, and his parents, Guy T. Winkleman and Gertrude McGonigal Winkleman.

Guy is survived by his wife of 18 years, Bobbie Babb Winkleman of Palatka, 2 sons, Tony Winkleman (Julie) of Satsuma and Tom Winkleman (Pam) of San Mateo, 2 step-children, David Spurling (Candy) and Diane Thompson (Ronnie) all of Chattanooga, TN, 2 brothers, Larry Winkleman (Rose) of Gainesville and Gary Winkleman of Clearwater, 2 sisters, Shirley Barrett and Barbara Thomas, both of Clearwater, 4 grandchildren, Ashley Hoare (Michael), Hunter Winkleman (Kortney), Baylee Fields (Josh) and Jeff Winkleman, 5 step-grandchildren, Tyler Thompson (Kelsey), Casey Hall (Mark), Avery Spurling, Kelsey Spurling and Leslie Spurling, 4 great-grandchildren, Cooper Hoare, Harper Hoare, Hadley Hoare and Hunter Fields, 2 step-great-grandchildren, Aidan Hickman and Mason Thompson.
