Gussie H. Hammock, 91
Gussie H. Hammock passed away quietly on January 12, 2021 at Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Mrs. Hammock had been a resident of Okeechobee for more than fifty years. Gussie was born on January 16, 1929 in Cuthbert, Georgia. She was the fifth of six children born to Lewis and Pauline (nee’ Perkins) Hunt.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Michael Hammock, and her husband, John Warren Hammock.
She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Gayle Kennedy of Orlando, Florida, and Linda Dianne Shelfer of Lakeland, Florida, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hammock was well-known, respected, and loved among her family, friends, and colleagues, has been a bright personality in the community since her early days with the local Welcome Wagon, Jeffers Tractor Company, and Finley Jewelers, where she retired after 17 years.
One of Gussie’s greatest joys was being able to train and disciple her family and her Sunday School class in the knowledge of The Gospel. She taught fifth and sixth-grade girls’ Sunday School for over thirty years.
