Günter F. Sommer, 87, died peacefully in Flagstaff, Arizona on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 at 6:40 a.m. He was born on July 25th, 1928 in Plieningen, Germany the son of Hermann and Frieda Sommer.
Günter Sommer was married to Ingrid Narjes in Germany on May 1, 1956, where he was a Methodist Minister. In 1960 he received his Ph.D. from Duke University where he went on to teach philosophy and world religions. He spent many years in the Owens Valley in California learning from Paiute Medicine Man, Raymond Stone. He wrote extensively including nine books published by the Weimarer Schiller-Presse and the August von Goethe Literaturverlag in Frankfurt.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ingrid Greta Sommer, sons Stefan and Christofer, daughters-in-law, Maribeth and Janti, as well as grandchildren; Rowan, Linden, Robin, Maya, Morgan, and Monica. He is also survived by his nieces in Germany: Sylvia, Stefanie, Veronika, Christine, Beate, and Karin. Günter was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Herbert and Reinhold.
He lives on in our thoughts and prayers.
