Guillermo (Gus) Florez, age 92, a resident of Flagstaff, AZ died November 2, 2015 of natural causes. He was born in Jerome, AZ in 1923 and graduated from Jerome High School in 1941 where he lived until marriage and moved to Flagstaff, AZ. He was employed by the Federal Government at Navajo Army Depot at Bellemont, AZ where retired from and continued his career to retired from the Arizona State Government at age 82. His career centered around ordinance and rockets where he became known as the Rocket Man, while employed at NAD at Bellemont, AZ .

Prior to marriage, Guillermo served in the Army and fought in the invasion of Normandy, France June 6, 1944 and marched on to the Battle of the Bulge, December 16, 1944. At Omaha Beach he was part of 127th AAA Gun Battalion Battery “D”. He proudly served his country and is a decorated WWII Veteran.

He loved his family dearly and saw the good in those he loved.

Guillermo is survived by his children Mary Dismukes, Alice Lopez, Billy Florez and Elizabeth Florez and by 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
