Guidner Holmes Mebane. The Love of my life. The father of my children. My husband and best friend. … ..
Holmes, as he was referred to by his family, was born October 8, 1941. He was the third of four children born to Guidner and Louise Mebane in Durham, North Carolina. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. He completed his early education in Mebane and Graham, North Carolina.
In 1953, the family moved to Springfield, Ohio. Shortly after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He loved the travel that accompanied his new career. He was able to see places he had often read about in his beloved history books.
After laying roots in San Diego, he began his career at Naval Air Station North Island. In 1973, Guy received an Associate in Arts degree in Social Science and in 1976 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science. Education was always important to him and he loved to debate history, politics and current events.
Our family grew to include three grandchildren and oh how San and Nae fussed over us! There were trips, dinners, and all kinds of events. We just enjoyed life to the fullest.
On Friday, May 23rd early in the morning, the Lord called Guy home. He leaves behind to celebrate his homegoing two daughters, Sandra Louis (Marlon) and Shanetta Mebane. Our only son Stacy preceded us both to glory. Three grandchildren: E’Mohni Raymond, Isaiah and I’yana Louis. One sister, Sandra Jean Dodge of Springfield, Ohio, two brothers Sanford Mebane (Carolyn),of Springfield, Ohio, Earl Mebane (Wynema) of Dayton Ohio and one adopted brother, Gregory Ford (LuAnn) of Chillicothe, Ohio. Also, we had 15 godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and adopted family members.
And while his earthly journey has ended, I have my rock with me! And oh how I rejoice to be reunited with my love. Don’t mourn his passing! Celebrate our reunion!
