Obituary of Guadalupe F. Ortega

Ortega, Guadalupe F. “Lupe”

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper. He was 97 years old. Guadalupe F. Ortega was born on March 10, 1921 in Asherton, Texas. He married the love of his life, Carlota Ayala on April 11, 1942 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Saginaw. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2009. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army serving during World War II. Upon his return, Lupe became a licensed barber for over 20 year. He later obtained his master contractor license and became an electrical contractor for over 40 years. Lupe was unable to finish high school to help care and provide for his family; later in life, while his children where students, he went back to night school and officially graduated. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post 22, and the VFW. Lupe was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting in Michigan, but also loved going to Colorado hunting for mule deer. He will forever be remembered for his strong work ethic, his clever sense of humor and for in investing both his wife’s and children’s education without question.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter: Joseph (Donna) Ortega of Indiana, David Ortega of Saginaw and Yvonne Ortega of Virginia; two grandchildren: Ty Kempf and his partner, Kim Peak of Hood River, OR and Logan (Stephanie) Kempf of Honolulu, HI; and a special nephew, Ricardo (Diane) Gallegos of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Tutunjian.
