Gregory Scott Powell died peacefully at home in Cape Canaveral, Florida, on December 26, 2016, at
the age of 59.
Scott is survived by his wife Kathy Wiley Powell; daughters Jennifer Powell and Danielle Powell; his
mother Harriett Wheaton of Haines City, Florida; his father Jim Powell and stepmother Georgia
Newman of Atlanta; and siblings Craig Powell, Diana Cuillo, and Laura Young.
Scott was born on March 2, 1957, in Louisville, Kentucky. He grew up in Winter Haven, Florida, and
followed his musical and culinary dreams throughout his life as he lived in Las Vegas, Haines City,
Peru (Indiana), and finally Cape Canaveral. While living in Indiana he worked as a chef at the
Wabash Honeywell Center. His family remembers him as a reflective, gentle spirit who shared his
love, humor, and courage with all.
